In brief

Everything you need to know about La Garuste 2023

Grape Varieties

Roussanne, related to the Marsanne grape variety, originates from the Drôme region. The production of this grape takes place late. The vine buds late and the grapes also ripen late in the season. Although it produces a concentrated wine, suitable for aging and with pronounced aromas, Roussanne is very sensitive to powdery mildew as well as gray rot that threatens the vine.
Viognier is a variety native to the Rhône region. It stands out for its heady aromas of exotic fruits, bringing freshness and roundness to the wines it constitutes. Viognier clusters are small to medium in size, truncated and compact. The berries are small, spherical or ovoid, with thick skin, green and when fully ripe, they become amber or pink.
Grape varieties such as Roussanne and Viognier create a perfect balance, contributing to the uniqueness of aromas giving a dry and mineral white wine.
These two varieties offer a true harmony between minerality, finesse and freshness.

A meticulous harvest

The harvesting procedures for Roussanne and Viognier reflect a meticulous approach to guaranteeing optimum grape quality.

Roussanne is well suited to poor, chalky and rocky soils. Preferring fairly warm climates, Roussanne also performs best where the cooling effect is evident, especially at night. Mediterranean soils are ideal. Known for its fragility, Roussanne is harvested when ripe.

Viognier has its own special characteristics. The sun and heat allow it to develop its full aromatic intensity, making it a quality grape variety.

The grapes are harvested when perfectly ripe to obtain the typical richness of this grape variety.

What recipe can I prepare with this white wine?

It pairs perfectly with gratinated oysters garnished with fresh herbs, highlighting the freshness and liveliness of this white wine. Scallops with sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and fresh herbs can also reveal its aromas. The earthy flavors of the mushrooms complement the aromatic characteristics of this wine, creating a balanced and memorable tasting experience.

As for desserts, this wine can be enjoyed with a platter of varied cheeses, a pear and almond tart. The floral and fruity aromas of Roussanne and Viognier bring a harmonious final touch to these sweet delights.
